Melatonin sublingual tablets each contain 3 mg of high-purity melatonin. Purity and potency of each batch of Melatonin tablets are verified by an independent, certified analytical laboratory.
Melatonin is a hormone synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan by the pineal gland in the brain. The perception of daylight in the eyes is a signal for the pineal gland to inhibit melatonin synthesis and release. At night or in a dark environment, the body's melatonin production rises, which is thought to be responsible for promoting sleep. Therefore, most of the research on melatonin has focused on its role in maintaining normal sleep/wake rhythms. Research has shown that melatonin supplementation helps reset the body's sleep-wake cycle, an aspect of circadian rhythm. It helps reduce the time it takes to fall asleep (sleep onset latency) in people with delayed sleep phase disorder, who often experience difficulty falling asleep at desired or conventional times. Melatonin also increases the total sleep time in people suffering from sleep restriction or altered sleep schedule, including shift-work and jet lag, and helps to relieve the daytime fatigue associated with jet lag. Nocturnal melatonin production is highest in children and begins to decline from adolescence until it is virtually absent in the elderly. This sublingual tablet will rapidly dissolve when placed under the tongue and the bisect tablet allows for easy dosing modifications.
