Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Pelvic floor physiotherapy aims to improve quality of life, reduce pain and increase function of the pelvic floor. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is for all individuals struggling with one or more of the following:

  • Generalized pelvic pain
  • Pelvic pain with sex or insertion
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • All types of incontinence
  • Chronic low back, sacral or tail bone pain
  • Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction
  • Birth prep and recovery (all types of birth)
  • Return to exercise post partum (no matter how long it’s been!)
  • Diastasis recti
  • Prolapse

What you can expect:

At your first appointment, we spend at least half the visit speaking about individual concerns, your pelvic health history and your goals for treatment. Each session is individual to fit your specific needs and comfort level. The physical exams entail a general observation of posture, orthopedic assessment of the low back, sacrum, hips and core muscles. We usually then perform an internal exam vaginally or rectally depending on your comfort level. The internal exam reveals a lot of useful information about muscle strength, control and endurance, but patients can also benefit greatly from non-internal pelvic physiotherapy. Our main goal in pelvic physio is to inform and empower our patients through compassionate care.
